How long has La Sirena been in business?
La Sirena was established in 1918 at the height of the great sardine boom in Monterey California. It has been the leading Latino brand for over almost 100 years.

What kind of fish are sardines?
Sardines are not a single type of fish. The name refers to a variety of small fish that live in schools in the temperate waters of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific. They are named after the island Sardinia.

Where do you get your sardines?
La Sirena sardines are harvested according to approved international fishing standards and are sourced from locations around the world order to find the best quality and size options.

What is pica pica?
La Sirena’s pica pica is famous the world over and has never been duplicated. Our hardy tomato sauce is full-bodied and never watery. And the perfectly balanced spicy seasonings will make your mouth sing.

What are Omega 3s?
Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids: They are necessary for human health, but the body can't make them so you have to get them through food. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as sardines, (also salmon, tuna, and halibut, other seafood including algae and krill, some plants, and nut oils). Should I be concerned about mercury sardines?
No. Sardines are low on the food chain, and research shows they are very low in contaminants.

How should I store La Sirena sardines and other canned fish and seafood?
Just store them you your kitchen cabinet, ideally in a cool one that’s away from excessive heat. Sardines have a long storage life, but you should always check the expiration date. If you have leftovers, be sure to refrigerate them.

Is your tuna dolphin safe?
Absolutely. We proudly note that on our cans. We belong to Earth Island Institute and are approved by them.

Is your packaging recyclable?
Yes. And we encourage everyone to do their part in recycling.

What are your sustainability practices?
First, at our very core, we are committed to sustainable fishing practices. We believe it is our responsibility to assure that future generations have the same access to the same seafood that we do. This means we source our seafood only from fisheries that have proven their commitment to responsible harvesting.
La Sirena tuna is, of course, Dolphin Safe. Plus we are members of Earth Island Institute, an environmental organization dedicated to protecting our planet, and which certifies our tuna.
In addition we work on a daily basis to be responsible stewards of our planet--especially our seas. This means that all our packaging is recyclable. It also means a commitment to creating a work environment that fosters a respect for our planet.

Why do they call Omega 3 a “good fat”?
